Heart Check #102: Hope Crisis
We are in a HOPE CRISES not a FAITH CRISIS. Hope is the defender of our faith. Hebrews 11:1 in the amplified tells us “Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].”
Faith is now and hope is future. A lot of times when I hear people speaking of people losing their faith what they are actually seeing is people losing their hope. Hope is the gatekeeper of our faith. Hope is something you put your weight on, lean on, put your stock in. More often than not our hope is waning or fainting not because we don’t believe but because we are hoping for is taking time. So when promises appear to be nowhere in sight a bit of our hope takes a hit. More time has passed and nothing I mean nothing appears to be happening so a little more of our hope is taken. Our physical eyesight starts to takeover and starts to be our driver and that’s a tricky place to be because remember “faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses.” Physical senses include our natural sight. So if our hope is faltering and hope is the fuel to our faith than it becomes quite difficult for our faith to override what we do not see yet. Abraham believed God (faith) when He told him I will give you a son (the promise) but Abraham’s hope got to a point of depletion because the promise appeared that it just wasn’t going to happen (time). So Abraham’s inability to hope anymore left his faith vulnerable and open for a group discussion (Sarah’s idea for them to create their own child). Hopelessness which leads to faithlessness can cause us start to manufactured a promise look alike. In my first heart check post, I spoke of a phrase that timing takes time. A lot of God’s promises does and will take time. We can look at the lives of Abraham, Joseph, David, and Hannah to name a few that their promises took time.
So you may be thinking how does this deal with the heart, I thought you would never ask. In Hebrews 10:23 it tells us “So now wrap your heart around the hope that lives within us, knowing that God always keeps His promises.” (TPT) What is that hope within us? Remember I mentioned earlier that hope is to put your weight on, lean on, to put your stock in. So if your hope is taking a hit right now time to put your weight on, lean on, stock in Jesus because He lives within you. Wrap your heart around Him the author and finisher of our faith. Our ability to hope is fueled by the One who lives inside of us. So lean on Him, rest on Him, because even when promises are taking time remember He the one who lives within you and me is the PROMISE KEEPER.
